Adaptive Feedforward Control for Gust Loads Alleviation

چکیده
Active control techniques for the gust loads alleviation/flutter suppression have been investigated extensively in the last decades to control the aeroelastic response, and improve the handling qualities of the aircraft. Nonadaptive feedback control algorithms such as classical single input single output techniques (Schmidt & Chen, 1986), linear quadratic regulator (LQR) theory (Mahesh et al., 1981; Newsom, 1979), eigenspace techniques (Garrard & Liebst, 1985; Leibst et al., 1988), optimal control algorithm (Woods-Vedeler et al., 1995), H∞ robust control synthesis technique (Barker et al., 1999) are efficient methods for the gust loads alleviation/flutter suppression. However, because of the time varying characteristics of the aircraft dynamics due to the varying configurations and operational parameters, such as fuel consumption, air density, velocity, air turbulence, it is difficult to synthesize a unique control law to work effectively throughout the whole flight envelope. Therefore, a gain scheduling technique is necessary to account for the time varying aircraft dynamics.

A Comprehensive Robust Adaptive Controller for Gust Load Alleviation
The objective of this paper is the implementation and validation of an adaptive controller for aircraft gust load alleviation. The contribution of this paper is the design of a robust controller that guarantees the reduction of the gust loads, even when the nominal conditions change. Some preliminary results are presented, considering the symmetric aileron deflection as control device. The prop...
متن کاملGust Load Alleviation Based on Model Predictive Control
Weight reduction is a typical design goal for modern aircraft. If gust encounters (as required by Certification Specification 25) are sizing conditions of parts of the airframe, this can be achieved (for example) by an active gust load alleviation system that reduces the gust load level down to the level of the next design condition, which might be the design loads from maneuver conditions. In ...

This paper describes a multi-objective flight control system design for flexible aircraft to take advantage of the availability of multi-functional distributed flight control surfaces to simultaneously gain aerodynamic efficiency, maneuver and gust load alleviation, and aeroservoelastic (ASE) mode suppression while maintaining traditional pilot command-tracking tasks. A multi-objective optimal ...
متن کاملMulti-Objective Flight Control for Drag Minimization and Load Alleviation of High-Aspect Ratio Flexible Wing Aircraft
As aircraft wings become much more flexible due to the use of light-weight composites material, adverse aerodynamics at off-design performance can result from changes in wing shapes due to aeroelastic deflections. Increased drag, hence increased fuel burn, is a potential consequence. Without means for aeroelastic compensation, the benefit of weight reduction from the use of light-weight materia...
متن کاملWorst Case Analysis of a Saturated Gust Loads Alleviation System
In order to determine a guaranteed upper bound for worst case “1-cosine” gust loads of flexible aircrafts, the usage of the worst case energy-to-peak gain of linear parametervarying (LPV) systems has been recently proposed. A limitation of this approach is that it cannot deal with nonlinearities. This paper uses integral quadratic constraints (IQCs) to circumvent this restriction and to conside...
